Proper cost accounting inside your manufacturing process and systems: product costs you can trust, monthly variance analysis that explains where the margin went, and pricing decisions based on numbers rather than guesswork.

Cost Management & Product Costing
What it is

Most manufacturers can tell you their sales and their bank balance. Far fewer can say, with confidence, what one unit of each product actually costs — materials, labour, energy, machine time and factory overhead included. Without that number, prices follow the competitor or the last quote, discounts are given blind, and a product that looks profitable can be quietly losing money every month.

Axcell builds and runs the costing function your factory needs. We map how cost really flows through your production — bills of materials, routings, cost centres and overhead absorption — set a standard cost for each product, and connect the costing process to your inventory and ERP so that every production order, material issue and finished-goods receipt is costed in the system. Each month we compare actual cost with standard, explain every material, labour and overhead variance in plain terms, and turn the numbers into pricing and product-mix recommendations you can act on. The work is supervised by a founder with 25+ years of CFO experience and the CMA (Certified Management Accountant) credential.

What you get
  • Cost structure review: bills of materials (BOM), routings, cost centres and overhead allocation
  • A standard cost per product — materials, labour, energy, machine time and overhead — agreed with your production team
  • The costing method that fits your factory: standard, actual, job/order or process costing, and activity-based costing where overhead is heavy
  • Monthly variance analysis — material price and usage, labour rate and efficiency, overhead spending and volume — explained, not just listed
  • Profitability by product, customer and market: contribution margin and break-even
  • Pricing recommendations: price floors, cost-plus and value-based pricing, quotation models and discount rules
  • Inventory and work-in-progress valuation aligned with your financial statements (IAS 2 / EAS 2)
  • Costing integrated in your ERP (Odoo, ERPNext, SAP and others), so costs flow from purchasing and production — not from spreadsheets
  • A monthly cost report and dashboard for the owner and management
Who it's for

Manufacturers in Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Egypt — food and beverage, chemicals and plastics, packaging, building materials, textiles and garments, furniture, engineering and assembly — whose margins move with material prices, energy costs or the exchange rate.

Exporters who need a defensible price floor for each market before they quote, and who need to know whether a large order adds profit or only volume.

Owners whose accounts show a profit while cash keeps tightening, whose stock counts never match the books, or who cannot get a clear answer to one question: which products actually make us money?

Scope of work
  • Diagnostic: factory walk-through, review of your data and systems, and a costing gaps report with priorities
  • Design: cost centres, BOMs and routings, overhead absorption rates, standard costs and a costing policy — signed off by management
  • System: set up or correct costing in your ERP, linking purchasing, inventory, production and sales
  • Pricing: a price-floor and quotation model for each product and market, with discount approval rules
  • Monthly cost close: production cost, inventory and WIP valuation, variance analysis and the cost report
  • Quarterly review: standard-cost update and product-mix review with management
How we work

We start from where your numbers are today — spreadsheets, an ERP that is only half used, or nothing formal — and build from there. Production, purchasing and sales are involved from the first week, because costing that the factory does not believe is costing nobody uses.

Your data stays in your own system. Our team works inside it through named staff under a signed NDA, supervised by senior accountants and a founder with 25+ years of CFO experience.

The engagement can be a costing project (diagnostic, design and system set-up), a monthly cost management service that runs the cost close and variance reporting for you — or both, in sequence.

Engagement model & fees

Scope depends on the number of products and production lines, the number of plants, and the state of your systems.

We confirm scope and fees in writing after a free 30-minute consultation, so you know the full cost before you commit.

Project and monthly options are available; monthly services run on a rolling agreement with no lock-in.

What changes for you in 90 days
  • A trusted cost per unit for your main products, with the assumptions documented
  • A clear view of which products, customers and markets make money — and which do not
  • Monthly variances explained in a one-page report, with owners and actions
  • Prices and quotations checked against a cost-based floor before they go out
  • Inventory and production costs that reconcile with your books
Questions

Common questions about Cost Management & Product Costing

  • What is the difference between cost accounting and our normal accounting?

Financial accounting tells you whether the company made a profit last year. Cost accounting tells you why — which product, line, customer or market earned the money and which one lost it — and what a unit costs to make today. You need both: the first for the tax authority and the bank, the second for running the factory and setting prices.

  • We already have an ERP. Why are our product costs still wrong?

Usually because the system is only as good as its costing set-up: incomplete bills of materials, routings that don't reflect the shop floor, overhead that is never absorbed into products, standard costs that were never updated, or material issues recorded late. We fix the data, the process and the configuration — not just the software.

  • How do you set a price for a new customer or an export market?

We build a price floor from the full cost per unit, then add what that specific deal costs you: freight and delivery terms, payment terms and financing, packaging and certification, and a buffer for exchange-rate movements. Your target margin sits on top. The result is a quotation model your sales team can use, with clear rules on how far discounts can go.

  • How much of our team's time does this take?

Most of the work is done by our team from your data and systems. During the design phase we need a few hours a week from production, purchasing and the finance team, mainly to confirm how things really work on the shop floor. Production does not stop.

  • How are fees set?

By the number of products and production lines, plants, and the state of your systems, and by whether you need a project, a monthly service or both. We confirm scope and fees in writing after a free 30-minute consultation.
